This is not only my most watched video with over one million views, but it was also one of my favorites to make. We knew this aircraft was popular amongst our audience, so we waited until we got the perfect guest to really explain it’s story and what it was like to fly. We lucked out with pilot Richard Webb, who did a great job explaining all the intricacies of the aircraft and sharing his stories.

I always think that the story is what really makes the video and Richard had some amazing ones. Considering the view count, I think audiences agree too.

I really love working on new video challenges, especially when I get handed a theme like an 80s vs 90s Dance. I’m happy with the “vibe” I created with this video, specifically with how the electronic music, arcade font and bright, neon colored graphics came together.

This episode is part of Season 2 of Behind the Wings, a television show that continues to air on PBS nationally. I’m proud of this episode particularly because of how many challenges I needed to solve throughout the process. For example, while filming inside the government buildings of NORAD, I couldn’t use my preferred microphones and needed to rely on my backups. Capturing a flight from multiple angles was also a challenge. In the end, I successfully coordinated the operation of three GoPros and my own digital camera in the backseat of a moving aircraft.

Making a video that is both humorous and informative can be tough, but with a good script and direction, it can make for a great final product. When the idea for this video came to me, my colleague wanted it to show the humor of the staff while also highlighting that our facility was safe and sanitary. To achieve this, I carefully wrote the script and became the Director and Camera Operator during the shoot so nothing was missed.

I’m happy with how everyone performed; hearing that event rentals increased after this video was released was a positive too!
